Bundle discounts and free shipping
How Subrise applies bundle discounts and free shipping at checkout, and how they combine with your other Shopify discounts.
Bundle discounts and free shipping apply in the cart and at checkout. Subrise sets them up for you as automatic discounts in Shopify, so customers don't enter a code.
The two automatic discounts
As your bundles need them, Subrise creates two automatic discounts in your Shopify admin, under Discounts:
| Discount | What it does |
|---|---|
| Subrise Bundle Discount | Takes each bundle's discount off its products. |
| Subrise Bundle Free Shipping | Makes shipping free on orders that include a bundle with free shipping turned on. |
Each one covers all your bundles. Subrise updates them whenever you change a bundle. They run on two Shopify Functions that come with Subrise, Bundle Discount and Bundle Free Shipping.
Warning
Don't delete or deactivate these discounts in Shopify. Without them, customers pay full price for bundles and pay for shipping.
How the discount is worked out
- Static bundles: the percentage or fixed amount off the bundle, as set under Pricing.
- Dynamic bundles: the percentage off the products the customer picked. With volume discounts, the customer gets the higher of the bundle's own percentage and the tier they reach. Below the first tier, the bundle's own percentage still applies.
Free shipping
With Free shipping on, every order with the bundle ships free, including other items in the same cart.
For a dynamic bundle with volume discounts and no percentage discount of its own, free shipping starts at the lowest tier's quantity. With a percentage discount, it starts at the bundle's own minimum number of items.
Combining with other discounts
The bundle discount and bundle free shipping combine with each other, and with other discounts of a different kind:
- Subrise Bundle Discount combines with any shipping discount, but not with other product discounts.
- Subrise Bundle Free Shipping combines with any product discount, but not with other shipping discounts.
Neither combines with order discounts, such as an order-wide discount code. In Shopify, a discount only combines when both discounts allow it, so check your other discount's combination settings too.
Subscriptions
The automatic discounts apply to one-time purchases only. On a bundle subscription, the subscription discount is part of the subscription's price instead, on the first order and every renewal. See Bundle subscriptions.
Renewals of a bundle subscription ship free when the bundle has free shipping. Subrise sets their shipping to $0.
