Switch over

Keep each subscription active in exactly one app, so no customer is charged twice when you move to Subrise.

A switch-over has one rule: each subscription must be active in exactly one app.

Warning

Customers are charged twice while a migrated subscription is still active in the old app. Cancel every migrated subscription in your old app before Subrise bills it.

Use the shop-wide switches

Settings > General has two Shop-wide switches:

  • Subscription billing turns renewal charges on or off for your whole shop. Turn it off while you switch, so Subrise bills nothing until you've cancelled in your old app.
  • Customer emails turns every subscription email to customers on or off. While it's off, customers aren't told about any change to their subscriptions.

Each switch saves as soon as you change it. See General settings.

Switch over step by step

  1. Pick a quiet window. Check the next billing dates in your old app and choose a time when few orders are due. Share it with our team on your call.
  2. Turn off Subscription billing in Subrise before our team moves your subscriptions.
  3. Set up Subrise. Create your plans, add the product widget and customer portal to your theme, and review your customer emails.
  4. Check the results. Once our team has moved your subscriptions, open several in Subscriptions and compare them with the old app: products, quantities, price, frequency, next billing date, shipping address and payment method.
  5. Cancel in the old app. Cancel each migrated subscription there.
  6. Turn Subscription billing back on. Subrise bills each subscription on its next billing date.
  7. Uninstall the old app once its subscriptions are all cancelled, and remove its blocks from your theme.

If something goes wrong

  • A customer was charged twice. Refund one order in Shopify and check that the subscription is cancelled in the old app.
  • You need help mid-migration. Email info@subrise.app or contact our team.
