Edit a subscription

Change a subscription's products, add-ons, plan, schedule, discounts, shipping address, payment method and order notes from the Subrise admin.

You can change almost anything about a subscription from its page in Subrise. Changes apply from the next order. Orders already placed don't change.

To start, open the subscription from the Subscriptions list. For moving dates, skipping, pausing and cancelling, see Skip, pause and cancel.

Note

Customers can make many of the same changes themselves in the customer portal. The customer portal settings only limit what customers can do. In the admin you can always make every change.

Products

Add a product

  1. In Products, click Add product.
  2. Search for the product. By default the list shows only Only products allowed in the customer portal. Clear that checkbox to search every product in your store.
  3. Tick one or more variants.
  4. Click Add.

New products join the subscription's current plan. If Added products get the subscription's discount is on (it is by default), they get the same plan or bundle discount as the rest of the subscription. Otherwise they're added at full price. See Plans and pricing.

Tip

Products in a bundle can't be added here. Add them from the bundle's page. See Bundles.

Change quantity or price

  1. Click the edit button on the product's row.
  2. Change the Quantity (1 to 999) or the Price.
  3. Click Save.

Swap a variant

  1. Click the swap button on the product's row.
  2. Choose the new variant. The current one is marked Current variant.
  3. Click Swap.

Remove a product

Click the remove button on the product's row, then Remove. A subscription must keep at least one product, so you can't remove the last one. To end the subscription instead, cancel it.

Add-ons

Add-ons are extra products billed with the subscription for a set number of orders, then removed on their own. Use them for one-time extras, like a sample or a gift with the next order.

  1. In Add-ons, click Add add-ons.
  2. Search for and tick the products, then click Add.

A new add-on is on the next order only. To keep it on for more orders, click the edit button on its row and change Cycles, the number of orders that include it. The Remaining column shows how many are left.

Pausing or reactivating a subscription removes add-ons that haven't shipped yet, and Subrise sends the customer the Add-on removed email.

Add-on inventory holds

If you turn on Hold inventory for add-ons, Subrise reserves an add-on's stock as soon as it's added, so it can't sell out before the next charge. If the product is out of stock, Subrise refuses to add it. See Add-on inventory holds.

Plan and schedule

Change plan

Change plan, in the Plan card, moves the subscription to another plan, for example from monthly to every two weeks. The plan can be in any plan group.

  1. Click Change plan.
  2. Choose a plan. Only plans whose plan group carries every product on the subscription are listed. Gift plans aren't listed.
  3. Click Change plan.

If Plan changes apply the new plan's pricing is on, products are repriced with the new plan's discount, and each plan shows its price per order. Otherwise products keep their current price. Bundle subscriptions can't change plan.

Edit the schedule by hand

Edit, in the Plan card, changes the schedule directly:

  • Next order date. Tick Notify customer of a new order date to send the Next order date changed email.
  • Deliver and charge every, with a Unit: Weeks, Months or Years. Prepaid subscriptions have separate Deliver every and Charge every fields.
  • Minimum cycles and Maximum cycles: the fewest orders before the customer can cancel, and the most before the subscription ends.

Click Save when you're done.

Discounts

  1. In the Discounts card, click Add.
  2. Enter a Discount code from your Shopify discounts.
  3. Click Add discount.

To remove a discount, click the remove button next to it, then Remove.

Shipping

Change the shipping address

  1. In the Customer card, click Manage next to Shipping address.
  2. Choose one of the customer's saved addresses under Ship to.
  3. Click Save.

Every order that hasn't been created yet ships to the new address. To use a new address, click Add address, fill it in, and tick Ship this subscription to this address. The address is also saved to the customer in Shopify.

Change the shipping rate

  1. Click Edit next to Shipping rate.
  2. Choose one of your store's shipping rates for this address, or enter a custom Title and Rate.
  3. Click Save.

Payment method

Click Manage next to Payment method.

  • Use another saved card: under Charge this subscription to, choose one of the customer's saved payment methods and click Save.
  • Ask for a new card: click Send update link. Shopify emails the customer a secure link to update the card on this subscription. Only the customer can enter card details.

Customers save cards when they check out. If a customer has no other card, sending the update link is the way to fix a failed or expired card.

Order note and attributes

The order note and attributes are copied to every new order from this subscription. Use them for gift messages or instructions for your warehouse.

  • Edit order note: type the note and click Save.
  • Edit order attributes: add Key and Value pairs and click Save.
