Customer portal settings
Choose what customers can change on their subscriptions, how they can pause, the reasons they pick, the products they can add, and the portal's text.
Customer portal settings decide what customers can do on their own subscriptions. They apply wherever your customers manage subscriptions: the storefront portal or Shopify customer accounts.
Open them from Settings > Customer portal. Change what you need, then click Save in the save bar.
Portal location
Portal location sets where customers manage their subscriptions, and where every Subrise link sends them. See Choose where customers go.
What customers can change
Each permission is a checkbox. All of them are on until you turn them off. The exception is Plan changes apply the new plan's pricing on stores that installed Subrise before that setting was added: there it starts off.
Products
| Setting | When on, customers can |
|---|---|
| Allow add-ons | Add products to a subscription as one-time add-ons. |
| Allow adding products | Add products to a subscription as recurring items. |
| Allow changing quantities | Change the quantity of a product. |
| Allow swapping variants | Switch a product to another variant, for example another size or flavor. A product with only one variant has nothing to swap to. |
| Allow removing products | Remove a product, as long as the subscription keeps at least one. |
Customers can only add the products you allow under Products and collections.
Plans and pricing
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Allow changing plans | Customers can switch their subscription to another plan, for example a different delivery frequency. |
| Plan changes apply the new plan's pricing | When a plan changes, every product is repriced with the new plan's discount, starting from the product's current price. Leave it off to keep each product's existing price and discount. |
| Added products get the subscription's discount | Products added to an existing subscription, by you or the customer, get the subscription's plan or bundle discount instead of full price. One-time add-ons always use their own price. |
Bundles
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Only allow bundle products | Customers can only add products that belong to the bundle to a bundle subscription. |
| Keep bundles together | Customers can't remove single products from a bundle subscription. If you turn this off, removing a product takes the bundle discount off that subscription. Customers can cancel either way. |
See Bundles for how bundle subscriptions work.
Dates and addresses
| Setting | When on, customers can |
|---|---|
| Allow changing the billing date | Move their next billing date, within the dates you allow. |
| Allow editing the shipping address | Change the shipping address on their subscription. |
| Allow editing the billing address | Change their billing address. |
Display
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Show inactive subscriptions toggle | Customers see a toggle for their cancelled and expired subscriptions. When off, inactive subscriptions aren't shown. |
| Show a divider on subscription cards | Adds a line below the header of each subscription card. |
Pausing
The Pausing section sets whether and how customers can pause.
- Allow customers to pause subscriptions turns pausing on or off as a whole.
- Allow pausing indefinitely lets customers pause until they resume the subscription themselves.
- Pause lengths customers can choose, in billing cycles lists the fixed pause lengths on offer, from 1 to 10 cycles. The default is 1, 2 and 3. With none selected, customers can't pause for a set number of cycles.
- Resume before the next billing date sets how many days before the next billing date a subscription paused for a set number of cycles comes back to active. The default is 7 days.
Note
When a customer pauses for a set number of cycles, the next billing date moves out by that many cycles, and the subscription resumes on its own.
Pause and cancel reasons
Customers pick a reason when they pause or cancel. Your reasons feed the Pause reasons and Cancellation reasons on the Dashboard and the matching reports.
- Turn Ask customers why they pause or Ask customers why they cancel on or off.
- Type in Add a reason to add one, and remove the ones you don't want.
New stores start with these reasons:
| Pause reasons | Cancel reasons |
|---|---|
| Out of town | Too expensive |
| Taking a break | No longer needed |
| Too many products | It's coming too often |
| Trying another product | Switching to another product |
Billing dates customers can choose
When customers can change their billing date, this section limits the dates they can pick.
- Allowed days: the days of the month customers can move an order to. Click Edit to choose days on a calendar grid. All 31 days are allowed by default.
- Blocked dates: specific dates customers can't choose, for example a holiday when you don't ship. Pick a date to block it, and remove it from the list to unblock it.
Subrise checks these rules when a customer saves a new date, so a blocked date can't be chosen from either the storefront portal or customer accounts.
Tip
These limits only apply to customers. You can still move any subscription to any future date from the admin.
Products and collections
Click Products and collections at the top of the Customer portal page to choose which products customers can add.
- Recurring products: products customers can add as recurring items.
- Add-on products: products customers can add as one-time add-ons.
In each list, switch between Products and Collections, then click Add products or Add collections. Allowing a collection allows every product in it. A product allowed through a collection can only be removed by removing the collection.
Portal text
Click Portal text at the top of the Customer portal page to change any label, button or message the storefront portal shows. Use it to match your brand's voice or to translate the portal.
- Search for the text you want to change, or open a group such as Subscription card, Main subscription page, Billing and payment, Products, Modal headings, Toast messages or Scheduled pause.
- Type your new text in the field.
- Click Save.
Some texts contain placeholders in curly braces, such as {interval}, {price}, {count} or {date}. Keep them: the portal fills them in.
The portal's colors, fonts and card styles are set in the theme editor, not here. See Style the portal.
