Shopify customer accounts
Let customers manage subscriptions inside Shopify's new customer accounts with the Subrise Subscriptions page and blocks.
If your store uses Shopify's new customer accounts, customers can manage their subscriptions from a Subscriptions page inside their account, instead of a page on your storefront. They sign in with Shopify, so there's nothing to add to your theme.
Note
If your store still uses classic (legacy) customer accounts, use the storefront customer portal. The Shopify customer accounts option in Subrise is greyed out for stores on classic accounts.
Before you start
Your store must be on Shopify's new customer accounts.
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings > Customer accounts.
- If you see a banner saying you're using legacy customer accounts, click Upgrade now.
Shopify lets you go back to legacy accounts within 30 days if you need to.
Open the customer accounts editor
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings > Customer accounts.
- Under Customer accounts, find Configurations and click Customize.
Add the Subscriptions page
- In the editor, click the apps icon at the top left. The panel it opens is titled Apps.
- Under Subrise Subscriptions you see two entries: Subrise Subscription Blocks and Subrise Subscriptions.
- Click the plus next to Subrise Subscriptions.
- Under Add page to, click Accounts.
- Click Save.
Until you add the page, it shows "There's a problem loading this page" and links to it do nothing.
Add a menu item
Customers need a way to reach the page. Add it to the customer account menu.
- In the editor's left panel, under Main, open Customer account main menu.
- Click Add menu item.
- In Label, type a name such as "Subscriptions".
- Click into the Link box and type "Subrise".
- Pick Subrise Subscriptions, the entry with the Subrise icon. Don't pick the one listed under Pages: that's a storefront page.
- Press the tick, then click Save.
Add the blocks (optional)
Subrise Subscription Blocks adds two small summaries that link to the Subscriptions page. Both only show to customers who have an active subscription.
Profile block
Shows the number of active subscriptions, the next order date and a Manage subscriptions link.
- Use the page picker at the top of the editor to open the Profile page.
- Under Main, click Add block and choose Subrise Subscription Blocks.
- Leave Backend URL empty.
- Click Save.
Order status block
Shows Your subscriptions with the number of active subscriptions and a Manage subscriptions button on the order status page.
- In the editor, open any order.
- Click Add block and choose Subrise Subscription Blocks.
- Click Save.
Point Subrise at customer accounts
- In Subrise, go to Settings > Customer portal.
- Under Portal location, choose Shopify customer accounts.
- Click Save.
The Customers go to link under the setting is where Subrise emails and the admin's portal links now send customers: the Subscriptions page inside customer accounts.
What customers see
The page is titled My subscriptions and has two tabs: Subscriptions and Order history.
Each subscription card shows its status, frequency, next billing date, total and products, with Manage subscription, Skip next order and Pause buttons, or Resume for a paused subscription.
Manage subscription opens the full subscription. Depending on your customer portal settings, customers can:
- Change date or Skip next order.
- Change plan.
- Pause now, for a set time or until they resume, or schedule a pause for later. A scheduled pause can be undone with Cancel scheduled pause.
- Cancel subscription, choosing a reason if you've set reasons up.
- Add product or Add add-on, change quantities, Swap variants and remove products.
- Edit address.
- Change payment method, or choose Email me a link to update my card to get Shopify's secure card update email.
The editor preview
The editor preview uses a sample customer who isn't signed in, so the page shows "We couldn't load your subscriptions" inside the editor. That's expected. The page works for real signed-in customers.
