Create a plan
Create a subscription plan step by step, from a template or from scratch, with its options, frequencies and discounts.
You create plans under Plans in the Subrise admin. A new plan starts with one option, and you can add more before you save. New to plans? Read Subscription plans first.
Start the plan
- Go to Plans and click Create plan.
- Pick a template and click Use template, or click Start from scratch.
The editor opens on Create plan. A template fills in the fields for you, and you can change all of them.
Name the plan
Enter a Plan name, such as "Subscribe and save". It names the plan in Subrise. Shopify treats it as customer-facing, so some themes show it. The Subrise product widget shows its own heading instead, which you set in the theme editor.
Set up an option
The main card edits one option. The Options card on the side lists them all.
Name and description
- Option name: customers see it on your product pages and at checkout. For example, "Monthly subscription" or "Every 2 weeks".
- Option description: optional. Shopify stores it as the option's customer-facing description. The Subrise widget doesn't show it. To add text under an option in the widget, use the Product widget card after you save.
Selling method
Choose one:
- Recurring subscription
- Recurring prepaid subscription
- Prepaid, single charge. Multi-order, which creates a separate order for each delivery, isn't available yet.

Delivery
The Delivery card's fields depend on the selling method:

Enter a number and choose Week, Month or Year. For a recurring prepaid subscription, the charge period must be a whole number of delivery periods. If it isn't, the card says so and you can't save.
Discounts
- Click Show discounts.
- Check Discount from the first charge and set the Amount and Discount type.
- Optional: check Different discount after a number of charges. Set After how many charges, then the Amount and Discount type that apply from then on.
The Preview card on the side shows how the option reads to a customer, with a sample price of $9.99.
Advanced settings
Click Show advanced settings for these:
- Maximum charges: end the subscription after 1 to 24 charges, or leave it at Unlimited.
- Set a billing and delivery anchor: move orders to a set day. Choose Anchor on (Day of the month or Day of the week), the Day and the Cutoff day. Click Add anchor for another one.
- Turn off the upcoming order notification: subscriptions on this option don't get the upcoming order email, whatever your notification settings say.

Add more options
In the Options card, click Add option for a blank one. To copy an option, click the three-dot button next to it and choose Duplicate, then change the copy. Click an option's name to edit it.
Save the plan
Click Save in the save bar at the top of the page.
Subrise creates the plan in Shopify and opens it in the editor. Two things become available once the plan is saved:
- The Products section, where you add products and collections. See Add products to a plan.
- The Product widget card, where you add bullet points and a description for each option. See Add the product widget.
If a field needs fixing, Subrise opens the option, marks it Needs attention, and highlights the field.
To leave without saving, click Discard in the save bar.
